Duplicate stitch material simulation

Duplicate stitch

Stitched over knitting

What you need

Stockinette item large enough for the measured motif; matching or slightly thicker yarn; blunt tapestry needle; scissors and placement markers. Knitting needles only if making the base.

These supplies describe the Carolers example; open a project for its exact list and sizes.

How to begin

  1. Work on finished stockinette; start at bottom right.
  2. Bring the needle up at the base of a V.
  3. Follow both legs of the V with matching-weight yarn.
  4. Keep tension loose; weave ends on the back.

Overlay the coloured cells on finished stockinette. Blank cells are existing fabric; leave them unworked. Yarn amounts are planning estimates; read Finishing & help for setup, rates and other weights.
